Mr. Arnel Sacol, a left above-knee amputee secondary to Diabetes Mellitus, has been one of the beneficiaries of SSHJM Cebu Mission for more than three years.
Through the continuous support of Sir Lino and the SSHJM Home-Based Care Team, he underwent rehabilitation focused on strengthening, functional mobility, and independence. He was trained in the proper use of crutches and eventually became independent in community ambulation, allowing him to move around safely and confidently.
Although Mr. Sacol already had a left lower-limb prosthesis, it was no longer fitting properly on his stump, making it difficult for him to use.
Today, with the assistance of the Ateneo de Cebu students, modifications were made to his assistive devices, including adjustments to his prosthesis. After the modifications, the prosthesis was able to fit properly, giving him the opportunity to begin gait training using his prosthetic limb.
This achievement is another important step in his rehabilitation journey. Through teamwork, dedication, and community support, Mr. Sacol continues to make progress toward greater independence and improved quality of life.
