Revelou Malazarte is a mother of two daughters, who has been diagnosed with cancer one year ago. She has been under regular home visits and monitoring due to functional decline related to her medical condition. Prior to the intervention, she required significant assistance with mobility and personal care.
During one of the routine home visits, Sir Lino and the homebased care team conducted a thorough assessment of Revelou’s physical status, medical needs, and living environment. The assessment was followed by personal hygiene care, including bathing and nail grooming, to promote comfort and prevent infection.
Following hygiene care, the team, together with caregivers, assisted her in attempting to stand. Initially, it required three to four people to support her due to her weakness and limited mobility.
Over the course of several visits, remarkable improvement was observed. Revelou showed strong determination and motivation to regain strength and independence. Gradually, the level of assistance she required decreased.
Eventually, she successfully progressed to standing on her own with the aid of a walker, demonstrating significant improvement in functional mobility.
The intervention given by our homebased care team was successful, as evidenced by Revelou’s enhanced mobility, improved self-confidence, and reduced dependence on caregivers. Her progress highlights the positive impact of consistent support, proper care, and her own determination to recover.
